wywiad + lotnisko

wywiad z Teen Vouge
They’ve been hailed as “the next One Direction,” already have a vast and loyal fan base (called “Harmonizers”), and can trend on Twitter multiple times a day. After their sensational start on X-Factor, things are only heating up for pop quintet Fifth Harmony.
The group, comprised of Camila Cabello, Normani Kordei, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Hernandez, and Dinah Jane Hansen, is currently hard at work on their debut album and will be releasing their first single very soon. We can’t give you all the juicy deets just yet (check back soon!), but you can expect some serious pop anthems and killer vocals that are going to have you singing into your hairbrush and tearing it up on the dance floor—trust us.
We caught up with the busy girls to get the scoop.
All right, let’s get the most important question out of the way: Did you get to meet One Direction on the show?!
Lauren:
Yes! We got to meet all of them. Zayn gave us some advice on how to engage with our fans, but I couldn’t really pay attention because I was hypnotized—I couldn’t believe I was talking to him!
Dinah: Harry and Liam also told us to stay close, keep a great friendship with each other, and lean on each other for support. They’re such nice boys, and really down to earth.
Camila: We talked about normal stuff, too. Niall asked me what I had for breakfast!
What are your fans like, now that the show is over?
Lauren:
They’ve been amazing! We did a meet-and-greet the other day, and that was really a testament to how incredible they really are.
Normani: Some of them even flew in from Brazil and the Netherlands! Isn’t that amazing? We got to meet about 400 girls and I definitely almost cried up a few times.
Ally: They’ve been incredibly supportive, and have really been anticipating the new album, too. We’re just so thankful for our fans, because without them we wouldn’t have this opportunity.
What actually motivated you to go on the show?
Normani:
I was scared to sing in front of people, so I didn’t even really want to pursue music in the first place! But my mom encouraged me to give it a shot, and after we got third on X-Factor I was like, “hey, thanks mom!”
Ally: Same with me—my mom really got me to do it. I actually missed the audition deadline on-purpose because I was nervous and didn’t want to do the whole TV thing, but then it got extended and my mom kept telling me I had nothing to lose.
Dinah: My mom signed me up too! It was last-minute, so when I got through to the judges’ round I had to fly from LA to Rhode Island, because that was the last stop. I ended up auditioning on my birthday! I was kind of scared because they told us to go to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, and I didn’t realize that was actually the stadium where auditions were happening. I thought they meant an actual donut shop, so I thought the whole thing wasn’t for real!
Lauren: I have been watching American Idol since it first came out when I was really little. And I’ve always wanted to audition for Simon Cowell. I didn’t have voice lessons or anything like that, but I always knew that I wanted to sing for him. It wasn’t ever about singing for everyone initially—just him. When my dad told me that he got a call from Simon saying that I had made it through, I cried for two hours straight!
Camila: Before X-Factor, I sang by myself in my room with the doors locked, but nobody really thought I could sing—everybody at school, even my parents were kind of shocked when I wanted to audition. I found out about the show through One Direction, and I decided that singing karaoke-style to my computer wasn’t going to get my anywhere. It was fear of rejection that kept me from going for anything for a long time, but I had an epiphany and decided that this was the only thing I could ever see myself doing. So I went for it, and my audition was the first time I sang in front of anyone. I was kind of mad that they didn’t show my audition because people at school didn’t believe me for a long time!
How did you guys become a group? Did you know each other beforehand?
Lauren:
No way! We joined forces during boot camp after auditions. And of course when we found out we’d be competing as a group there was an initial “what?” but literally the second we got to know each other it was clear that this was going to work.
Dinah: I was so excited. I felt like Destiny’s Child!
Normani: I always wanted to be in a girl group!
Let’s talk fashion. Who do you look up to, style-wise?
Normani:
My style is very edgy, yet glamorous. I love glitter, and sparkles, and rhinestones. It’s a cross between Rihanna and Beyoncé. Did I mention that I like glitter?
Ally: My style is very fun, and bright. I love Katy Perry’s style because she’s so bubbly and amazing.
Dinah: Edgy, glam, funky. I like a little bit of swag. Ok, maybe a lot of swag. I look up to Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, and Kim Kardashian.
Lauren: I’m kind of bohemian, with a rocker-hipster edge. I love Lana Del Rey’s sense of style, as well as Vanessa Hudgens and Miley Cyrus. And I wear combat boots and beanies like it’s my job!
Camila: I like to wear a lot of bows in my hair! I love Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato’s style. Lately, I’ve been liking retro-style stuff, too.
Give us the scoop on your new music!
Ally:
We have our new single coming out soon!
Dinah: We’re very involved in the album. We’ve co-written a lot of it.
Normani: We bounce ideas off of each other, and since we’re sharing a lot of the same experiences, the songs we’re writing really come from all of us.
Anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Ally
: Beyoncé!
Dinah: And her daughter, Blue Ivy…
Camila: Taylor Swift!
Lauren: I’d love to collaborate with David Guetta. That would be sick!
Normani: I love Justin Timberlake.
Ally: Justin Bieber!
Camila: Demi, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj!
Lauren: Do you want anymore? We can keep the list going…
